William's Burg Town

My brother Karl's family came to visit us this week. Rachel, Karl, William, and Caroline rolled in about 4 on Monday, and we played around the house until Mike got home from work. We headed to Pierce's for a nice dinner and then drove around town a bit. Tuesday, we toured campus, walked around CW, and ate lunch at the Cheese Shop. Later that afternoon, Rachel and I headed to the Outlets to get in some shopping without the kids. For dinner we did Grilled Chicken Caesar salads at home. After dinner we discovered a great ice cream place in Lightfoot -- Handel's, which I keep calling Hannibal's even though it disturbs me. Wednesday morning we had a pancake breakfast at the Astronomical Pancake House before they headed to the Pottery and the Ferry over to Surry. It was a fun visit, and we can't wait to see our favorite Floridians again soon!

America's Birthday

We had a nice fourth of July in Lynchburg. Some of the highlights were bubbles, homemade vanilla ice cream, sparklers, and fireworks!

Beaverdam, VA

When Mike heard he was getting off early on July 3rd, Mom and I decided to go pick him up together. His parents drove him to Short Pump, where we met and had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. Afterward, Mom wanted to head up to Beaverdam, VA in Hanover County to search for Goodman family graves. We were sent on a wild goose chase by the locals, who promised success if we searched the graves at the Old Trinity Church. With directions like "drive until you get to the crossroads" and "just past the berry farm" we were a little unclear of where to go on the country roads. Let's just say that there are a LOT of national historic landmark churches in that area. On the look out for any old buildings, I spotted this Free School. The first church pictured is Fork Church that is actually still in use. We did eventually find Trinity Church, but we were a little disappointed that there were only a few Goodman graves. They are probably somewhere on a family plot in that rural county!

Birthdays in the Burg

We celebrated Lily and Garrett's birthdays when I first got to Lynchburg on June 28th. After dinner they opened presents, and then we had yummy cupcakes, ice cream, and cookies. The following Sunday I gave Ethan his present early. The gum was a big hit!

Visiting Lynchburg

I have been at home this week visiting my family. Here are some of the highlights:

Sunday - met Mara in Charlottesville to catch up, dual birthday party for Garrett (6) and Lily (3)
Monday - Macado's for lunch with Mom and shopped at the new Ollie's (good stuff cheap)
Tuesday - babysitting Randall's kids, heard that Mike got me a free piano, evening workout with Melinda at the Y, yummy salt-free homemade pizza for dinner
Wednesday - another Y workout (she's pretty serious), neighbor boys chased me down until I bought their lemonade, lunch with parents at Taco Bell, shopping with Mom, visiting Kirsti and the kids at her new house, got sick with a cold that night, watched Blood Diamond on USA with Dad
Thursday - sick lazy day at the house

Tomorrow I will go pick up Mike, who will join us to celebrate the 4th of July on Saturday!

RISK

After dinner on Father's Day, Mike and I conquered the world in an intense Team Risk battle against Wesley and his parents. The last battles were fought in Asia and Australia. I started calling the ten army pieces canoes and I think it stuck.

In other news, Mike got a letter today from CNU and he was on Dean's List for his final semester -- CONGRATS!

"I know I can't be in two places at once..."

Today I decided to check my classes on Banner for this upcoming fall semester. Somehow my schedule has changed since registration in the spring. I am now registered to take two courses at the EXACT same time on Wednesday nights from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. I have to take both of the courses this Fall and they are both in a set program from the same department, so hopefully it's some sort of clerical error and they don't expect me to clone myself. I could try, but I really prefer math to science.
